Race Day Instructions
Calling all mud-runners!!!
More muddy digs, more obstacles and more water await you for the 2017 JCB Mud Run. Plans are well underway and we’re looking forward to welcoming you to the event on July 1st – prepare for a head to toe mudpack!
The JCB Mud Run does not have a mass start and is run in waves. You have been assigned a WAVE TIME so if, for example, you are in the 10.00 wave, this means that you can then start the race within the hour following your allotted time slot.
This year, we have 36 natural, JCB machine dug or man-made obstacles for you to conquer – more than ever before – so by allowing you to leave at any time within your wave, you will have a fairly clear route ahead of you.
08.30 OCRA Wave Start at 08.30
09.00 Wave Start between 09.00 – 10.00
10.00 Wave Start between 10.00 – 11.00
11.00 Wave Start between 11.00 – 12.00
12.00 Wave Start between 12.00 – 13.00
13.00 Wave Start between 13.00 – 14.00
14.00 Wave Start between 14.00 – 15.00
OCRA UK wave – The 08.30am OCRA wave has been designated the OCRA UK national qualifying wave. Good luck to all those hoping to make the finals later in the year. The course differs from the main route and only those who have entered this event will be allowed to run at 08.30am.
Please arrive at the site in your running kit. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes and remember to tie those laces up ‘tight’! Off-road running shoes will be best but don’t worry if you haven’t got them, normal running shoes will be fine but definitely no spikes or cleated shoes. We recommend full-length tights to protect your knees but they aren’t essential.
Please arrive in good time for your registration wave; at least an hour before you wish to run. All vehicles must park in the JCB headquarters’ car park; where you will then take a 5 minute shuttle bus. (JCB HQ staff car park on Denstone Road, Rocester, ST14 5JP). Teams must arrive together and spectators must also arrive with the runners they are supporting.
*Please note that dogs are NOT permitted on site.
On arrival at the site, you’ll see the information marquee, baggage, changing areas, toilets etc. Once you are ready to race, go to the registration tent where you will be given your timing chip, wristbands and your race t-shirt. Teams must run together and only one chip per team will be given.
INDIVIDUALS – There will be an envelope waiting for you in surname alphabetical order containing your timing chip and 2 wristbands; one goes on your wrist which entitles you to free food and drink, the other goes on your kit bag, if you have one, which is then dropped in to the baggage marquee.
TEAMS – There will be ONE envelope per team which one of the team members should pick up on behalf of their team. It will contain eight wristbands (2 each – read Individuals above) and ONE timing chip. Teams MUST stay together when competing and one person of that team should wear the timing chip. These envelopes will be in team name alphabetical order so please quote your exact team name.
There will be water available to drink on the course. Please note that we strongly discourage the use of MP3 players. We’ve added a ‘lake wade’ this year, they will get muddy and wet – guaranteed!
There are changing facilities to use post-run but no hot showers. There is, however, a lovely cold shower at the end of the race if you wish!
All runners will receive free food and a drink while spectators will be able to buy food and drinks from our catering units. Your wristband qualifies you for your free meal post-event so just hand it in after your run at a catering unit (remember, don’t put it on too tightly!) to claim it.
Spectator viewing areas will be clearly marked along easy walking trails. Please note that wheelchair access is limited due to the hilly terrain of the site. Walking times for spectators to the best and muddiest obstacles are approximately 5 – 10 minutes’ walk away. The terrain is rough in parts so please wear appropriate footwear. There will also be fun activities for children to take part in on site whilst the parents are getting dirty, including a mini mud run course and ride on toys.
Results will be posted on the website following the event – please follow the JCB Mud Run Facebook site for race details and pictures before and after the event! We hope you have a fantastic time, and we will see you on the 1st July.
Please note, no changes to the database will be permitted after Friday 23rd June.
Please ensure all members of your team (if registered under the same email address) receive this message.
